Investment in High Speed Rail
High speed rail construction will begin in 2024 as part of a vision for the future of rail transport. Notably, the Toulouse-Bordeaux high-speed rail is scheduled to open in 2030. This is a strategic move to strengthen connectivity and further put France at the forefront of high-speed rail travel.
Future High Speed Rail Service from Bordeaux to Toulouse
The new high speed rail line project between Bordeaux and Toulouse was announced by then-prime minister Jean Castex in April 2021. The plan aims to connect the both France cities. The new rail line, which is just over 200 kilometers long (the existing network is 2,800 kilometers long), is designed to provide high-speed rail services to the Toulouse region. In the long term, the construction will become part of the proposed "Southern Circle" which connecting the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea and it runs from Bordeaux to Nice via Toulouse, Montpellier and Marseille. The project start work in 2024 and will complete in 2030. The new high speed rail line is projected to cost approximately €10.3bn.
High Speed Train Plan between France City & Germany's City
In 2023, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have unveiled plans to build a high-speed train route linking their capitals, Paris and Berlin, as well as provide 24 hours a day service starting next year. Both the French railway company "SNCF" and the German railway company "Deutsche Bahn" are involved in the development plan of high-speed railways between the two countries. They also plan to create a train ticket for young people to travel cheaply across the two countries by next summer.
