TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse)

Overview

Fast TGV trains link more than 200 popular places in France. Travelling between cities is quick and simple because these trains can go as fast as 350 kilometres per hour. With many departures, you have the flexibility to travel when it suits you best.

 

Operated by SNCF, the national railway company of France, the TGV has been in operation for more than 40 years. These high-speed trains transformed long-distance travel in France. Places that used to take overnight trips are now reachable in just a few hours.

Services

More TGVs are now double-decker trains known as TGV Duplex. If you want a better view, pick a seat on the upper level. All TGV trains come with standard air conditioning.

You can bring as much luggage as you need, and there's ample storage space on the train. Just remember to put labels on your bags.

Most carriages have restrooms, and some even have baby-changing facilities. In the bar carriage, you can find a variety of food and drinks, including hot and cold snacks, sandwiches, breakfast items, salads, and cakes, as well as a selection of hot and cold beverages, beer, and wine. Additionally, there's a trolley that goes through the aisles offering food and drinks.

Ticketing Options

  • You can book your tickets up to four months in advance.

  • Reservations are a must!

  • Tickets are Printed at Home. E-tickets have QR codes that you can scan at the station.

  • There are no hidden fees. Plus, your seat reservation is included.

  • Book early for the lowest fares. (Be on the lookout for sales openings!) Cheaper seats tend to sell out quickly.

  • For the cheapest fares, avoid travelling at peak times (mornings, evenings, holidays, Fridays and Sunday afternoons). Book in advance. Sales openings are a great time to book! Cheap tickets tend to sell out quickly.
